Golf at Fancourt.
Courses
There is no doubt that Fancourt is South Africa’s premier golf
resort, featuring three highly rated Championship golf courses
as well as the Western Cape’s premier 18-hole public course.
Since opening in the early 90's with just 27 Gary
Player-designed holes, Fancourt’s Outeniqua and Montagu golf
courses have matured and developed into two of the finest
18-hole parkland layouts in the country. A round on either is a
special experience, sculpted and finished as they are with rare
attention to detail and designed with the coastal George winds
in mind.
The
Links at Fancourt was added in 2000, an awe-inspiring example of
magnificent design and golf-course construction, about which
designer Gary Player says: “Links golf is how the game
originated and at The Links we take golfers back to the roots of
golf – and they can play a ‘British Open’ all of their own!”
Lastly, Bramble Hill was added, a course that is distinctly
Fancourt, yet has a friendly character all of its own. It is a
course that can be tackled by beginner and seasoned campaigner
alike, without the intimidation and pressure so often associated
with celebrated championship courses.
In
addition to four golf courses suited to every type of golfer,
Fancourt boasts one of the finest golf academies in the world,
with state-of-the-art practice and teaching facilities, backed
up by the expertise of PGA professionals, as well as several
well-stocked on-course pro shops offering all types of golf
merchandise.
The
Montagu is a much celebrated parkland course and has been ranked as the
number-one golf course in South Africa in the past. It has
recently undergone major renovations with several holes being
redesigned and has two completely new holes – the 1st and the
9th.
"With golf critics becoming more discerning and the increase in
new modern courses, we believed it was time to rejuvenate the
Montagu layout and improve the course immeasurably," says Resort
General Manager, Ingrid Diesel. " We believe the new-look
course, which has now grown in superbly, has been restored to
its former glory where it will once again hold its head high
amongst the best in the world."
The
Outeniqua is one of two majestic 18-hole Parkland layouts at Fancourt.
Designed by legendary Grand Slam golfer Gary Player, it is
similar in character to its sibling The Montagu, and its
challenging design and fine conditioning will ensure an
excellent test for all levels of golfers. As with all courses at
Fancourt, there are a variety of tees from which to choose to
play, ensuring that golfers are unlikely to ever feel
overpowered by the course.
The Links
at Fancourt is without doubt the most impressive piece of golf
design and construction ever in South Africa. Fancourt owner Dr
Hasso Plattner, who took a very hands-on function in the
creation, commissioned a golf course, which would not only be a
thorough test for every golfer, but would also rank among the
top courses in the world.
Bramble Hill is the fourth course at Fancourt, but it has a character all of
its own. Built in response to a need for an 18-hole facility
that would be accessible to the community of George and
surrounding areas, Bramble Hill is truly a public golf course in
the sense that there are no restrictions on who can play at any
given time.
The
Clubhouse
The
Clubhouse with its wide, vaulted passageway and towering windows
offering stunning views of the gardens and manicured fairways,
is the hub of Fancourt activity.
-
The reception area, where
guests are welcomed with a glass of champagne and checked in
by friendly, courteous staff.
-
The Golf Shop which not only
carries a wide range of equipment and stylish golf wear, but
is also a good place to browse for gifts.
-
The Club Bar with its long,
gleaming wooden counter and leather furnishings set the
scene for a congenial 19th hole in which to mull over the
day's golf.
-
A comfortable lounge in
which to plan the day's activities, or just relax with a
book or newspaper.
-
Le Pêcheur, the restaurant
which specialises in seafood dishes served in a truly
Mediterranean atmosphere. Sushi is also a favourite at this
restaurant.
-
The Billiard Room which has
two full-size tables, chess and darts and is open to all
Fancourt members and hotel guests for their enjoyment.
-
MARK GOLD Jewellers offering
a selection of fine jewels.
